Arsenal seem to be looking everywhere for signings this summer with the latest target coming from the English Championship.
According to reports, Arsenal are keen on signing Wolves striker Helder Costa.
According to the Birmingham Mail via Daily Star, the Gunners and Chelsea scouted the former Benfica attacker, who scored 12 goals for the Championship side in the just concluded season.
The report also added that Costa who joined Wolves for a summer club record fee of £13million is currently valued at around £20million with the club ready to sell the star to interested buyers.
Wolves managing director Laurie Dalrymple said:
“I can’t sit here and definitely say he’s going absolutely nowhere because I don’t know what’s around the corner in four week’s time.”
“We’re a football club in the Championship.
“We haven’t been in the Premier League for five seasons and we have very different financial pressures from a lot of other clubs in this league.
“It will purely come down to whether someone comes in with an offer that’s too good for us to turn down.
“We obviously feel that Costa is a very valuable asset.
“The only reason we wouldn’t keep hold of that asset would be if it was in the club’s interest from a financial point of view.”
In my own opinion, buying Costa shows lack of intent from Arsenal to get back into the thick of things at the top of Premier League football.
Arsenal have just been knocked out of the top four position for the first time in as many years, and what we need are stars proven at the top level to compete with the rest of the pack above us; who would also be buying the best to strengthen their sides even more ahead of the new season.
We don’t need a striker who would probably take a few months or even seasons to completely hit the ground running and also can’t provide adequate competition for the strikers currently at the Emirates. So for me this move is a no-no.
