Mesut Ozil wants to sign a new contract at Arsenal but will only do that if the club meets its demands.
Ozil has been in talks with the club since May but both parties are yet to reach an agreement. Earlier in the week, reports in Germany claimed the midfielder is close to signing a new deal with only a few details left to be ironed out.
According to German newspaper Bild via Football Insider, Ozil is prepared to sign a new deal at the club on his birthday which comes up later this month.
However, the German international has asked the club to give him the number 10 shirt which was left vacant by Jack Wilshere in the summer and is also seeking assurances from the club that it would compete with other big clubs in the transfer market.
Ozil recently revealed he loves wearing the number 10 shirt and will like to wear it at Arsenal. Wilshere’s absense will now give him the opportunity to have the shirt number.
Ozil also wants the club to be more active in the transfer market. The 27 year old wants to win titles and he believes the club will have the opportunity to do so if the transfer window is used judiciously.
The Germany international is prepared to sign a new deal at the club on or before October 15 when he turns 28, if his demands are met.
Ozil is believed to be happy at the Emirates and could sign a new deal which will keep him at the club until 2023. The midfielder joined Arsenal from Real Madrid in 2013 and has become one of the most important players in the club.
