Arsenal are looking to send Rob Holding out on loan in January, according to The Mirror.

Holding completed a £2m move to Arsenal from Bolton in the summer transfer window and has been part of Wenger’s first team. The young defender had a blistering start to life at the Emirates but dropped to the bench following the arrival of Shkodran Mustafi.

He could now find himself further down the pecking order when Mertesacker recovers from injury in the new year and the captain’s imminent return means Holding could be Wenger’s fifth choice centre back next year.

In a bid to prevent the defender’s development from stalling, Wenger has agreed to send him out on loan to a club where he will get to play more regularly.

According to the report, a host of Championship clubs as well as few bottom placed Premier League clubs have indicated their interest in taking the defender on loan but Wenger would prefer he joins a Championship side where he will have a better chance of playing week in-week out.

Holding has already shown he has a big future ahead of him and all that is needed is to harness his potential and develop into the top player that he can be.

And I think sending the defender out on loan is a brilliant idea as it will be beneficial to his development in the long run.

Although i’d I have loved him to join a Premier League club because he will have the opportunity to face high quality opponents more often which will also be great for his learning but looking at it from another angle, it could be disastrous if he doesn’t get to play regularly.

With his kind of quality, he will definitely get to play at any Championship club and you can’t help but think that might be the less risky decision for him even though there is less quality there.
