3. Hector Bellerin
Rushed, he was, into that cauldron on Tuesday evening and no one dares lay a complaint on his performance on the day. But if “confidence is to have all the hard work done”, another mention of his name on the team sheet will no more be seen as just a chance to impress. He’s had his baptism, the work of winning the souls of the fans is now fully initiated. He will have to show that Ballerinas belong to stage dance, while a Bellerin’s stage is on the pitch, to good effect.
4. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
It may be a tad harsh to suggest that a player who has rarely been given his opportunity on the pitch has a point to prove. The Ox has had little time on the pitch to force his way into Wenger’s plans for the season. Going by his intervention which prevented Mkhitaryan from putting one past Szeczney in the dying minutes of the Tuesday game, one could perceive that Chamberlain was eager to send a message to the boss. If, like he says, that he is ready and feels in form, a chance on Saturday, especially if in a starting role, will see him under scrutiny in assessment of his future in the club – an opportunity which I have good reason to believe he will not spurn.
5. Joel Campbell
There are four competitions in which Arsenal will be fighting for trophies this season, and as much as it is expected that Joel Campbell will get his chances in the League and FA Cups, a player of such promise will only be truly valued by League outputs. He must be wondering what he must do to get into the team, and if we are to be honest, there is little room for him at the moment. Wenger, though, is a man with the penchant for ordering goods when the supplies are running out. Campbell must be on his toes to seize the moment, if it comes even if for the final two minutes in Villa.
Lars Ricken scored with his first touch after coming on as a sub in the 1997 Champions League final, today he’s on the Board of the BVB Dortmund.
