Arsenal are struggling to get rid of its unwanted players due to their high wages, according to reports.
A number of Arsenal players have been told to find a new club as Wenger attempts to strengthen the squad ahead of the upcoming season but the clear-out has been delayed by the players refusing to take pay cuts.
The likes of Kieran Gibbs, Jack Wilshere, Carl Jenkinson, Mathieu Debuchy, Lucas Perez and Calum Chambers are expected to move on this summer but Arsenal have been unable to sell them because of their reluctance to accept a lower wage package elsewhere.
As a result the club’s massive clear out has been delayed as prospective buyers baulk at meeting the players demands.
This would come as a surprise to many of us as we had always thought Arsenal’s strict wage policy, means we don’t pay our players over the odds but difficulty in finding other clubs willing to pay our players what they earn here says otherwise.
According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal plan to slash £19m off its annual wage bill by selling those players that have fallen out of Wenger’s plans but have only manage to sell Wojciech Szczesny to Juventus.
The players reluctance to move is also preventing the club from pursuing its own targets at full force as we will have to make space for any potential arrival by getting rid of these fringe players.
Should this continue to drag on, Arsenal will have to reduce its price for the players so buyers can meet the players demands or risk being stalked with unwanted players until the January transfer window.
