Arsenal could look at Ross Barkley to replace Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain, according to reports.
Chamberlain is being linked with a move away from Arsenal, with Chelsea and Liverpool believed to be interested in his services.
The Ox contract expires at the end of next season and is believed to have informed Wenger that he has no intention of signing a new deal. This has led to reports linking him with some of our rivals but Wenger has publicly ruled out the chance of such move happening.
However, the club knows they can’t afford to lose the winger for nothing next summer and could give in if he continues to push for an exit.
Arsenal have also been monitoring the situation of Barkley who also has a year left in his contract at Everton and doesn’t want to continue at the Goodison Park.
And the Daily Mail are claiming Arsenal could replace Chamberlain with the Everton man.
Barkley isn’t a like-for-like replacement for Chamberlain and it is unlikely that Arsenal will move for the Everton man to replace the Ox on the pitch but he could replace him in the squad’s homegrown quota.
With the likes of Kieran Gibbs and Carl Jenkinson expected to leave the Emirates this summer, Wenger will want to be careful not to fall below the required homegrown quota in the squad and that I think is the only logical reason he is looking to replace the Ox with Barkley.
However, before this will happen, rivals will have to convince Wenger into parting with Chamberlain
