Atletico Madrid are set to land Arsenal a huge blow in the race to sign Olympic Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette, according to reports.

Arsenal have reportedly made Lacazette one of its top target this summer as Wenger prepares to revamp the squad but we could be set to suffer huge blow as Atletico Madrid are closing in on the striker after reaching an agreement with the player’s agent.

According to Spanish radio station COPE via The Metro, Atletico’s chief executive officer, Miguel Angel Gil, held a meeting with Lacazette’s agent in February and has now reached an agreement to sign the striker.

The report claims it is Antoinne Greizmann who has urged his club to sign the striker while Lacazette himself was also impressed by Atletico’s plans to move into a new stadium.

Lacazette is now expected to join Atletico if the Spanish giants can overturn their current transfer ban which has placed an embargo on them signing new players this summer and also agree a fee with Lyon.

If this report is true, Arsenal will have to step up its pursuit of the striker in order to prevent Atletico from securing the deal.

I am not really bothered about the Spanish giants making the first move for the striker because I believe they won’t be any match for us if we hold a concrete interest in the striker.

Despite our relative lack of success on the pitch, Atletico can’t match us in terms of prestige, financial might and stature to attract top players like Lacazette.

Lacazette scored 29 goals in 35 games for Lyon this season and is expected to cost above £50m.
