The former goalkeeper Jens Lehmann is set to join Arsenal as a first-team coach.

The German revealed to German outlet Welt that he will return to the club for a third time, following two stints as a player, as Arsène Wenger tinkers with his backroom staff.

The 47-year-old replied “yes, it is true” when asked about reports he is set to join Arsenal for a third time.

He had two previous spells with the Gunners during his playing career and was part of the ‘Invincibles’ team that won the Premier League title in 2003-04.

Lehmann, who has also played for Schalke, AC Milan, Dortmund and Stuttgart, retired in 2010 before briefly returning to Arsenal a year later to help with the club’s injury crisis.

He is highly regarded and respected at the Emirates after the keeper played in every game of the Gunners’ unbeaten 2003/04 season, which was the last Premier League title the club managed to win.
