Real Madrid have moved ahead of Arsenal in the race to sign Torino striker Andrea Bellotti, according to reports.
Arsenal have been keeping tabs on Bellotti since last season and it was claimed that we could make a move for the forward in the summer transfer window.
The Italian has been in superb form this season, scoring 15 goals in 20 Serie A games so far and his form has now caught Madrid’s attention.
According to Gazetta Dello Sport via Tribal Football, Madrid are closing in on the striker’s services.
The report claims Torino chief Urbano Cairo will be in Madrid next week for a meeting with Fiorentino Perez to discuss the striker’s transfer.
The Madrid chief wants to sell Karim Benzema and he sees Bellotti as a capable replacement. He has indicated that the player’s £84m release clause wouldn’t be a problem as he prepared to beat a host of top clubs to the player’s services.
Madrid’s interest in Belotti will come as a big blow to Arsenal because their willingness to meet his release clause has all but dashed any hope we had of signing him.
There is no way Wenger would pay that much for the striker and Madrid’s interest ends any chance of us negotiating a lower fee for the player.
