Hector Bellerin is close to signing a new five year contract at Arsenal, a report in Spain has claimed.
Bellerin was the subject of interest from Barcelona and Manchester City in the summer transfer window which prompted Arsenal to offer him an improved five year contract despite having just three years left in his current contract.
According to Spanish Publication Sport, via the Daily Star, Arsenal have succeeded in convincing the player to snub the advances of his suitors and sign a new deal at the Emirates.
The report claims Barcelona have cooled their interest in the defender after they were informed by a contact in North London that Bellerin will sign a new contract at Arsenal in a fortnight.
There were reports in the past few weeks that the Spaniard was keen on a move back to Barcelona but Gooners will now feel relieved after this latest report.
Bellerin has developed into a key player at Arsenal and it would have been a big blow had we not been able to convince him to stay with us.
The 21 year old is on the track to become one of the world’s biggest stars and Gooners will be delighted that he will be at the Emirates for a long time.
The new five year deal is expected to cost Arsenal around a £100,000 a week but we wouldn’t mind as the defender deserves it, having developed into a key player for us in recent years.
