Fresh development has emerged in Arsenal’s pursuit of Thomas Lemar as Wenger continues to work on a deal to sign the playmaker.

Lemar is Wenger’s top target but Monaco who are reluctant to sell are frustrating the Gunners efforts, despite the player wanting the move.

A third bid worth £45m was rejected last week but that hasn’t deterred Wenger.

Yesterday, Sky Sports reported that talks between both clubs are still ongoing, hinting at a possibility of a fourth bid and in a fresh update, Italian journalist Emanuele Giulianieli has claimed Lemar’s move to Arsenal is done.

The controversial journalist made this claim via twitter and he is quoted by the Daily Cannon as saying:

“To all the Arsenal supporters asking me about Lemar I can answer: don’t worry, he will join the Gunners,” he tweeted.

While this will get many Gooners excited, it is important to note that the journalist hasn’t really been credible when it comes to Arsenal transfers in the past.

Whether he is right or wrong again, no one can tell, so we’ll just have to wait until something concrete happens but one thing is certain, Arsenal are serious about signing Lemar.

After the game against Benfica on Saturday, Wenger remained coy about the club’s pursuit of the playmaker.

“We don’t speak about how the negotiations go,” he said when asked about the France international.

“We come out once the player is done or not done. I can’t tell you that. But at the moment there is nothing special to say in this case. We are still active on the transfer market in general.”

Judging by Wenger’s comments, negotiations are still ongoing which is good news and there is a chance Arsenal can sign the midfielder, it may take us a few more money that we had budgeted.
