Newcastle United have joined Deportivo La Coruna in the race to sign Lucas Perez, according to reports.
Perez is the subject of interest from his former club Deportivo, who recently tabled an £8.1m bid for the defender and are waiting for a response from Arsenal.
Wenger is determined to recoup most of the £17m he spent on Perez last summer and Deportivo’s offer isn’t in any way appealing.
And now, there is a new development as regards the striker’s future as Newcastle United have now enquired about him.
According to the Sun via Tribal Football, Rafael Benitez’s men have asked about Perez and are keen to make him their new No. 9.
Arsenal will now be hoping Newcastle submit a bigger bid than Deportivo’s, as we look to offload the striker in the coming days.
Perez reportedly favours a move back to the La Liga, meaning Deportivo now face a fight to get their striker due to added competition.
At 28, Perez is wary of moving to another English club because of his struggles adapting to the league but he may have no other option if Deportivo are prized out by Newcastle.
