Mesut Ozil has revealed that Wenger wants him to add more goals to his game.

Ozil has been drawing plaudits in recent weeks for his goal scoring exploits. The German international bagged his first career hat trick against Ludogorets last month and followed that up with a fine solo effort against the Bulgaria side in the return leg. Ozil has now revealed that it is Wenger who is always urging him to score more goals.

“The manager wants me to score lots of goals,” Ozil said.

“He sees in training that when I have a chance, the ball mostly goes in.

“When we train on finishing, he sees that I score lots of goals. He knows that I’m ice-cold in front of goal and he wants to see that in matches.

Ozil who is known as the creator-in-chief at Arsenal due to his assists stats has already scored seven goals this season more than he did last year. Although he has produced fewer assists this season, the midfielder believes he hasn’t changed his game despite scoring more.

“I’m doing that now – I go forward and, while I haven’t changed my game, I’m focusing on scoring goals myself too, Ozil added.

“Every year he comes to me says, ‘You need to score more than 10 goals this season – that needs to be your aim because you have the quality’. I’m trying to take that on.”

“I wouldn’t say I’m more selfish. As I said, I’d never change my playing style. I’m the kind of person who, if I see a teammate in a better position I will pass to them.”

“But I try to finish myself too, or to run into space so I can finish.”

Ozil finished last season with the highest number of assists (19) in the Premier League and has even become more dangerous, having improved his goal scoring rate.

His goal scoring exploits has helped us sit top of our Uefa Champions League group and we are on course to finish top of our group for the first time in recent years.
