Arsenal tried to sign AC Milan midifielder Manuel Locatelli in the summer transfer window, according to reports.
The summer was arguably Arsenal’s busiest in recent seasons in terms of transfers with the club signing a large number of young players as well as established players. Reports in Italy are now claiming there could have been more arrivals at the Emirates if Wenger had his way.
According to Calcio Mercato via Sports Witness, Arsenal tried to sign Milan youngster Locatelli in the summer transfer window.
Locatelli is regarded as one of Serie A’s most talented youngsters and he is being dubbed the new Andrea Pirlo by fans in Italy.
However, AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani and boss Vincenzo Montella were reluctant to let the youngster leave.
The midfielder has now been fully integrated into Milan’s first team and is already impressing scouts.
He featured in Milan’s 4-3 win against Sasuollo on Sunday, scoring his team’s third goal of the game.
Arsenal chief Ivan Gazidis recently revealed that the club is now focused on signing talented young players who will develop into top stars for the team. So the interest in Locatelli shouldn’t be surprising.
Chelsea were also linked with the young midfielder in the summer transfer window.
