Alexandre Lacazette is set to snub Arsenal’s advances in order to complete a move to Atletico Madrid this summer.

The Gunners are long-time admirers of Lacazette, having followed him since he was a teenager but could miss out on his signature when he finally leaves Lyon this summer.

Olympic Lyon have already confirmed they are now prepared to let their star man leave, should they receive a suitable offer for him.

Arsenal are one of the club’s believed to be interested in signing Lacazette but The Mirror claims it is Atletico Madrid who are in pole position to sign the forward.

The Spanish giants are prepared to pay up to £50m for the French man and are confident that the figure will be enough to push through a deal.

The report also claims the striker will reject the chance to move to the Emirates in order to complete a move to Atletico.

The Spanish outfit will be moving into their new 68,000 seater stadium next season and previous reports in Spain had claimed Lacazette is keen to be part of the stadium project.

£50m won’t be a problem for Arsenal to match, neither would Atletico be able to pay more in wages than the Gunners can, so it is likely that there are other projects at Atletico that appeals more to Lacazette – perhaps the assurance of Champions League football.

Not forgetting that the Spanish outfit has consecutively made it to the semi finals stage of the Champions League in the last four seasons, while we haven’t got past the round of 16 in the same period and could even miss out on the competition entirely next season.

Who else to blame for Lacazette wanting to move to Spain rather than the Emirates if not ourselves?
