Arsene Wenger has identified winning the Premier League as his priority target next season and wants to strengthen the squad this summer.
Although just Kolasinac has joined so far, Wenger is lining up big money moves for a host of other top players. However, winning the league isn’t all about spending money but spending it on the right players.
Even more important than signing the right players, is keeping your best players. Arsenal would reopen contract talks with Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez when they return from holidays.
We will carefully take a look at four players Arsenal need to sign to win the league next season.
The Gabonese international has established himself as one of Europe’s best strikers at Borussia Dortmund and has been linked with a host of top clubs. The centre forward position is one area Wenger needs to strengthen and Aubameyang will be the perfect signing. With BVB willing to sell and the striker seeking a fresh challenge, Arsenal must not let the chance of signing him go begging.
The striker finished last season as Bundesliga’s top goal scorer, with 31 goals. A shot accuracy of 63% makes him the perfect man to convert all the numerous chances Arsenal creates. With the likes of Ozil, Sanchez and possibly Mahrez behind him, Aubameyang is sure to replicate the goalscoring form that we need to clinch the title.
Should Alexis Sanchez be convinced to stay, the right wing is one position Wenger should concentrate on. Theo Walcott, Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain and Aaron Ramsey have all been deployed on this position in recent seasons but neither of them have impressed. Mahrez who has declared his intention to leave Leicester City will be an upgrade to whatever options we currently have.
Wenger is a big fan of the winger and the player is also keen on working under him, which means a deal won’t be difficult to complete, but with interest from rival clubs, Arsenal would have to move fast to secure his services.
Despite having a quiet campaign last term, Mahrez has been backed by pundits and many sports betting sites to make the switch to Arsenal this summer with the winger still highly regarded in the English Premier league.
Another player Arsenal must look to sign is Manolas. The Greek international is a long-time target of Arsenal and Wenger was interested in signing him last August before we signed Mustafi. Although the centre back doesn’t look like a priority for Wenger at the moment, I think its one position Wenger must look into.
Laurent Koscielny is already on the wrong side of 30 and has struggled to stay fit for a whole campaign in recent seasons. Last year for example, he got injured in a crucial part of the season and if we want to successfully challenge for the title, we must have a ready-made quality replacement. Manolas who is regarded as one of Serie A’s best defenders, having won 55% of his duels last season and average defensive actions of 9, is available for a reasonable price, so there is no reason Arsenal shouldn’t make a move for him.
Finally, one area Wenger should look into is providing cover and competition for Hector Bellerin. As much as the quality of your first team is important to win titles, the quality of your squad depth is also crucial. Gabriel Paulista was deployed at right back when Bellerin got injured last season and he struggled to hold his own against high quality opposition and also didn’t contribute enough to our attack against teams that sat back.
While there are other eye catching right backs like Fabinho and Elseid Hysaj, Karsdorp will be a quality option to provide cover at right back for Bellerin. At 22, he is already a full Dutch international and a regular at Feyenoord. He has so much potential and could be poached for a relatively modest fee. His six assists last season means he is a good attacking fullback like Bellerin and will fit perfectly into Arsenal’s style of play.
