Marseille are not willing to give up on signing Olivier Giroud this summer, according to reports in France.

Giroud is being linked with a move away from the Emirates despite Wenger insisting he wants to keep the French man. Suitors were hoping to convince him to join them after the arrival of Alexandre Lacazette but Wenger was able to convince the striker to stay and fight for his spot.

However, Marseille who had made Giroud their priority target are not prepared to give up just yet. According to L’Equipe, the French club will wait till the final days of the transfer window before making another bid for the striker.

It is claimed they want to see how much game time Giroud will be afforded at the start of the season before making a move again. Marseille are hoping they will be able to tempt the striker this time around if it looks like he will be spending another season on Arsenal’s bench.

Giroud who grew frustrated with his substitute role last season may be tempted to join Marseille if he doesn’t get enough game time at the start of the season and that will be a big blow to Wenger who wants him to compete with Lacazette next term.

Considering the upcoming season is one that precedes a world cup tournament, everyone wants to play regularly in order to stand a chance of being part of the national team for the tournament and Giroud is no exception.

He has the quality to start for most teams in the world and it wouldn’t be surprising if he is tempted to leave. However, he can still play a key role for us next term if he decides to stay.
