Hector Bellerin has apparently ruled out a move to Barcelona, giving Arsenal fans a huge boost.
The defender first attracted the interests of the Spanish club as well as Manchester City in the summer transfer window.
It was claimed that the Catalan club are keeping tabs on his situation at the Emirates ahead of a future move and many of us have been worried that we could see a repeat of the Barcelona-Cesc Fabregas saga of 2011.
Bellerin has now given us a huge boost after he broke his silence on the constant speculations linking him with a move to the Camp Nou, stating he is not interested in leaving the Emirates and he wants to stay here for long.
“If I wanted to play there I would have stayed there. I was very happy when Arsenal showed interest in me and I decided to come here. I’m not looking back, I’m just looking to help Arsenal. It’s nice for a player to know that big teams want you but I’m very happy here,” Bellerin said.
The defender who is reportedly close to signing a new five year deal at Arsenal added that he is in no rush to put pen to paper on a new deal and is happy in North London.
“I’ve still got three years left on my contract so I’m just focused on playing every single week, improving and hopefully making things happen here at Arsenal. I’m not in a rush to extend the contract. I’m happy. I’m comfortable. I want to be here a long time,” the defender added.
Bellerin’s recent comments will definitely excite Gooners. The Spaniard has developed into a top player under the tutelage of Arsenal coaches, having joined us at a tender age and this little show of loyalty will further endear him to the heart of many Arsenal fans, hopefully he will continue to play a key role in our squad.
With his current performance, he is well on course to become an Arsenal legend if he keeps his promises of wanting to stay with us for a long time.
