Mesut Ozil may well have just dropped the biggest hint yet that he will stay at Arsenal beyond the end of the season.
Talks have now been put on hold until the end of the campaign, with Ozil saying he wants to concentrate purely on helping Arsenal reach the Champions League.
Speaking to Sky Sports this week, the German international said:
“As I’ve said in the past, the most important thing is Arsenal and what we do as a team now.
“I’ve got aims with this club, we all want the top four and that’s what counts at the moment.
“As I’ve said before, in the summer we will talk but right now Arsenal stands in front of any player and I respect that.”
Ozil’s decision to focus on football appears to be paying off with the 28-year-old having found his form in recent weeks.
He played a starring role in the 2-0 win at Southampton on Wednesday night, setting up Alexis Sanchez for the opening goal with an exquisite first time pass.
But it’s what Ozil did on social media after the game that has really got Arsenal fans excited.
Having posted up a picture of him and Shkodran Mustafi celebrating the win along with his now famous #YaGunnersYa catchphrase, one fan replied begging him to stay in north London.
And Ozil liked the comment – raising hopes he will put pen to paper when contract talks resume at the end of the season.
