Manchester City have moved ahead of Arsenal in the race to sign Napoli defender Faouzi Ghoulam, according to reports.
Arsenal and City have been monitoring Ghoulam since the beginning of last season and it was claimed that Wenger has earmarked him as his top target to strengthen our defense this summer but we could now miss out on his signature after City jumped ahead of us in the race to sign the 26 year old.
Ghoulam has reportedly told Napoli he doesn’t want to sign a new contract with them, opening up a possibility of a switch to the Premier League.
But, according to Tuttomercatoweb via The Express, it is City who are more hopeful of signing the defender.
Ghoulam has established himself as one of Serie A’s finest fullbacks in recent seasons and has strengthened his credentials with seven assists this season.
He would have been a perfect signing for us but City’s willingness to spend big on him means we are likely to miss out on his services.
This recent development will now force us to turn our attention to Celtic’s Kieran Tierney who is seven years younger than Ghoulam.
Obviously Tierney lacks experience at the top level when compared to the Napoli man but will be a decent alternative option considering his huge potential.
