Hector Bellerin has revealed he was unhappy with Arsenal coaches in his early days at the club for playing him in an unfamiliar position.

Bellerin joined us from Barcelona in 2010 at the age of 16 and was immediately integrated into our academy to continue his development.

The defender has revealed he played as a winger at Barcelona but was made to play as a right back when he joined Arsenal.

He says he was unhappy with the decision at first but later realized the coaches made the best decision for him and has thanked whose idea it was to deploy him at right back.

Bellerin told Sport magazine: “When I was at Barcelona I played as a winger.

“It was only in my last one or two years there i played a few games as a right back – not more than five.”

“But at one of them there was an Arsenal scout and they said:

‘Okay, this guy has to be a right-back.’

“When Arsenal told me at the beginning I was a bit frustrated you know, thinking I like to be an attacker.

“But I soon realised what their vision was for me and how they saw me as a right-back.

“In the beginning learning a new position was not easy.

“But I’m feeling comfortable now. I’m really happy with whoever’s idea that was, because maybe if I was still a winger I wouldn’t be where I am.”

Bellerin’s case just goes on to show the amount of work that is done by our coaches to make sure that our youngsters become the best that they can be.

Many have hailed us for the rate at which we bring through youngsters from the academy to the first team but nobody has an idea of the amount of work that our coaches put in to make this possible.

Rivals have invested huge amounts of cash in their academy to enable them produce talented youngster but to no avail because they lack the right tutoring which our coaches offer here.

The likes of Bellerin, Iwobi and Wilshere are products of the great work done in our academy and there are many more youngsters knocking on the door of the first team.
