Arsenal’s all time highest goal scorer Thierry Henry believes Alexis Sanchez will be more effective in the no. 10 role than the centre forward position he is currently occupying.

Sanchez has featured mainly as a striker this season and has impressed many with his performances.

Wenger made a surprise decision to deploy him up front at the beginning of the season and his performances have vindicated the French man’s decision.

He’s pushed Olivier Giroud out of the starting xi but against Sunderland, the French man who came off the bench showed he is determined to win his place in the starting xi back.

Henry believes Giroud has to be in the team after his performances since returning from injury and has backed Sanchez to perform better in the attacking midfield role just behind the French man.

‘At the beginning of the season I said I would play them both [Giroud and Sanchez] up front because you can still play around the Arsenal way, but you can also play long when Giroud is there,’ said Henry.

‘As soon as Olivier came on [against Sunderland], Alexis Sanchez went on the left. Why not play Sanchez behind Giroud?’

Wenger has already hinted at a change in formation in order to get both Giroud and Sanchez on the pitch at the same time, meaning Henry’s wishes could be granted.

However I don’t expect Wenger to make any changes to our current set up anytime soon. We are doing well at the moment and there’s no need to make alterations but I wouldn’t rule out a Sanchez-Giroud pairing at some point in the season.
