Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is keen on bolstering his side ahead of a major title challenge next season, and this has seen the club linked to an avalanche of stars this summer.
PSG midfielder Yohan Cabaye wants to return to English football as Arsenal have rekindled their interest in the Frenchman.
Cabaye has expressed his desire to leave Pairs Saint-Germain, just a year-and-a-half after he joined the French champions for £19 million. The ex-Newcastle midfielder has been linked with a move back to the Premier League after not getting enough first team action in Paris as he would have expected.
He spent two full seasons at St James’ Park after moving to Tyneside from Lille for around £4 million in 2011. He made 93 appearances as the Magpies’ number four, a shirt made available after the departure of Kevin Nolan, and scored 18 goals. These included a stunning free-kick against Manchester United and a stunning 15-yard strike at Anfield.
At Newcastle he was subject to interest from Arsenal, and a £10 million bid from the Gunners was rejected by Newcastle in the final few days of the 2013 summer transfer window. Cabaye refused to play for Newcastle, but the transfer fell through as Arsenal refused to make a second bid for the Frenchman.
At PSG, Cabaye is a member of their current, famous domestic treble winning side. They won the Ligue 1, the Coupe de France and the Coupe de la Ligue in 2014-15 becoming the first French side to do this domestic treble.
Cabaye also made French footballing history at his first club Lille, where he won the club’s first double. Cabaye has made 53 appearances overall at PSG, but is behind Blaise Matuidi, Marco Veretti and Javier Pastore for a place in central midfield.
As well as interest from Arsenal, Cabaye has also been linked with a reunion with his ex manager Alan Pardew at Crystal Palace. There have also been rumours of a potential move to West Ham for the Frenchman, but the lure of Champions League football could tip the balance in Arsenal’s direction.
