France international Olivier Giroud is prepared to pursue a loan exit from Arsenal as he looks to strengthen his chances of making Les Bleus’ squad for next summer’s World Cup.
The 31-year-old striker has played second fiddle to Alexandre Lacazette upfront for the Premier League duties with most of his gametime coming in the Cup competitions.
According to The Mirror, the three-time FA Cup winner is worried about his situation in Didier Deschamps’ squad, should he continue to receive sparse playing time at the Emirates.
The likes of Kylian Mbappe, Kevin Gameiro and Lacazette have been in bright form this term, and Giroud potentially faces the axe, despite impressing for the national side of late.
As per The Mirror, the former Montpellier ace would prefer a stay in the English capital as he does not want to relocate his family which is set to have a new member in the coming months.
As a result, West Ham United and Crystal Palace are in the running to pursue a short-term winter loan for the experienced striker with a view to a permanent deal in the long-run.
Everton had come on the cusp of a £40m move for Giroud in the last transfer window, but he made a late decision to snub the offer after he was convinced to stay by Arsene Wenger.
The Merseyside club continue to be linked with the Frenchman’s services, but Giroud’s reluctance to changes cities is likely to hand a major blow in their quest to sign a new marksman.
Despite his limited gametime, Giroud has netted seven goals across all competitions, including three in the top-flight from 13 substitute appearances.
