Olivier Giroud is willing to leave Arsenal this summer if he isn’t guaranteed a place in the starting xi next season, according to reports.
The striker had to settle for a bit-part role this term due to the superb form of Alexis Sanchez. He has only started 11 Premier League games, featuring mostly as back up to the sublime Chilean. This is the first time the French man found himself in such position since moving to the Emirates in 2012 and has handled the situation impressively, coming off the bench to score crucial goals for the team.
His contribution off the bench has somewhat led to some supporters believing he is better off as a super sub but the striker refuted those suggestions in an interview in January, insisting he only wants to win his place in the starting xi back.
However, with Wenger reportedly keen on signing a top striker this summer, the French man could spend more time on the bench next year, which will pose a little problem this summer.
According to The Metro, Giroud wants to play regularly next season so he can lead France line in the 2018 world cup.
The arrival of a new striker will lead to increased competition for places in the starting xi which may not favor the former Montpeiller man. He will then seek assurances from Arsene Wenger about his place in the starting line up and if not guaranteed any, he will reconsider his future.
It is unlikely Wenger would want to make any guarantee, opening up the possibility of a summer move. Olympic Marseille may appeal to the striker if he decides to leave the Emirates. The French giants are desperate to sign the French man and are prepared to pay as much as £20m for his services.
But all these would depend on if Sanchez stays and Wenger signs another striker. Considering the increased competition in the Premier League, Arsenal can’t afford to remain stagnated by not strengthening it’s strike force, even if that means losing Giroud, then let’s do it.
