Arsenal are set to reward Alex Iwobi with a new deal after the 19-year-old’s impressive performance since he broke into the first team.
Iwobi was recently promoted into the Gunners first team and has received plaudits for his performances.
The Nigerian international is now set to be rewarded with a new contract, according to the Sun. Iwobi is currently on a £1,000 a week salary and Wenger is set to increase his salary to £10,000 a week.
Wenger rates the midfielder highly and decided to include him in the first team as against sending him out on loan. The midfielder is excited to be playing a major role in the Gunners first team and has thanked Wenger for not sending him out on loan.
“With going out on loan, it’s men’s football so you have to win all the time [and develop] that ‘anything to win’ kind of mentality. So you learn things quicker on loan,” Iwobi told the Arsenal Weekly Podcast.
“But when you’re playing with world-class players and training with them every day you become a better footballer in my opinion. You learn a lot more training with the likes of [Mesut] Ozil and [Alexis] Sanchez.”
Iwobi scored his first goal for Arsenal against Everton on Saturday.
