West Ham are interested in signing Carl Jenkinson in the winter transfer window, according to reports.

Jenkinson recently recovered from a knee injury he sustained while playing for West Ham in January and the Hammers are keen to resign him again.

The defender joined the hammers on a two year loan in 2014 but managed to spend one year six months with the East London side before injury ended the move.

He has since returned to fitness, acting as cover for Hector Bellerin and Slaven Bilic is keen to sign him again.

According to The Daily Star via The Metro, Arsenal are prepared to reject West Ham’s attempts to sign the defender.

Jenkinson is expected to provide cover for Bellerin this season and with the future of Mathieu Debuchy still in doubt, Wenger will not listen to offers for the 24 year old.

The defender has also ruled out the possibility of leaving the Emirates in January, insisting he wants to remain at Arsenal.

‘This squad is full of world class players,’ Jenkinson said.

‘That’s the sort of environment I want to be in.

‘I want to play with players of that character, that stature, because I think it’ll bring the best out of me.’

Jenkinson became a Gunner in 2011 after showing great potential in his early days at Charlton but has failed to fulfil that potential five years later. Some fans are already calling for his sale but I’m sure Wenger will give him more time to impress.
