Arsenal are reportedly closing in on a £75million double swoop for Jonny Evans and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger confirmed yesterday that he was chasing at least two players in January.

And the Telegraph claims Arsenal are now first in the queue to land Evans, while their Aubameyang talks also progressed.

Manchester City are eyeing £57m Aymeric Laporte as they seek an extra centre-back.

And that should clear the way for Evans, 30, to join the Gunners, despite the Citizens being believed to be his No1 choice.

West Brom are keen to thrash out a deal worth around £20m early so they can hand Alan Pardew funds to reinvest before next week’s deadline.

The Gunners also have representatives in Germany as they aim to complete complex negotiations for Aubameyang, 28.

Dortmund are holding out for more than the £51m currently on the table and also want Olivier Giroud as a replacement.

Asked about the Aubameyang talks yesterday, Wenger said: “You never know how close.

“These are the kind of things that, at the moment, are one of the possible movements.
