Chelsea are reportedly monitoring the situation of Arsenal target Ganielli Imbula at Porto. The Frenchman has been on the Blues and Gunners radar for a longtime and was linked with a move to Inter Milan in the summer but finally moved to Porto for a fee of about £14.7m.
According to L’Equipe, Chelsea are in constant contact with Imbula’s Father who is also his agent. Calciomercato claim the midfielder is struggling in Portugal and the blues are seriously watching the midfielder’s situation and are ready to move for him ahead of Arsenal if the opportunity arises.
Jose Mourinho watched the midfielder first hand few weeks ago when Chelsea played Porto and the Portuguese side ran out winners with the French international excelling in that game.
It is understood that Mourinho is an admirer of the 23 year old and was interested in signing the player but a move didn’t materialize because the blues scouts had reservations about his ball playing ability. With Mikel attracting interest from Besiktas, Imbulla will be an ideal replacement for the Nigerian and a quality back up for Nemanja Matic.
Tottenham were also linked with a move for the 23 year old in the summer transfer window. The midfielder has made 5 league appearances for Porto since joining the club in August.
