Mesut Ozil has refused to rule out a return to Real Madrid, according to a report in the Ibtimes Uk.

Spanish publication Marca recently claimed Ozil is keen on a move back to Madrid where he joined Arsenal from in 2013.

The report claimed the midfielder would jump at the chance of working under Madrid’s president Fiorentino Perez again., as he regrets leaving the Spanish club.

In an interview with Marca, the Germany international insisted he doesn’t regret leaving the Spanish capital but failed to close the door on a return to the club.

When asked whether he will return to Madrid, Ozil said:

“I am very happy playing in a club as big as Arsenal, which has incredible fans who encourage me a lot. I feel very good playing in London, but in football you never know… We’ll see what happens in the future.”

“I miss the (Madrid) weather. That sun is… there is always sun (in Madrid). I have great memories from my time there, with the club, the city, the people… Of course, sometimes you stop to think about it and well, you miss it… Now I’m happy in the Arsenal but you never know what may happen in the future. We will see…”

This will not go down well with Gooners considering the midfielder’s importance to our squad. Ozil has become a key player at Arsenal since he joined three years ago, scoring 27 goals and providing 47 assists in 137 appearances.

Everyone at Arsenal is keen for the German to remain at the Emirates and club chiefs have been working hard to tie him down to a new contract. However, he is yet to to agree a contract extension to his current contract which has in turn placed his future in doubt.

I do not think Ozil necessarily wants to return to Madrid but these speculations have come up because of his contractual situation at Arsenal. The midfielder categorically stated he is happy here and I believe he is. So we can only hope his contract will be resolved soon,it will go along way in reducing speculations about his future.
