Mesut Ozil is set to sign a new deal at Arsenal after both club chiefs and the player found a breakthrough in negotiations to extend his contract.

The Germany international has enjoyed a superb start to the current campaign, scoring seven goals in 14 appearances this season and his fine form has been key to our stellar start to the season.

He has proven he is a crucial part of our squad and gave us a glimpse of what we would miss if we do not tie him down to a new deal.

Ozil is now set to be rewarded with a huge pay rise on his current £140,000 a week salary. According to The Mirror via The Daily Star, the midfielder is on the verge of signing a new long-term contract at Arsenal which will see him receive an increment of about £60,000 to his current salary.

The new deal will make the German the highest paid player in the club’s history.

However, the future of Alexis Sanchez is less certain. The Chile international is also in the penultimate year of his contract and talks to extend his deal have been ongoing also.

He is demanding a significant increase to his £135,000 a week salary and also the inclusion of a release clause in his contract. Arsenal are willing to offer him an improved contract but we are unwilling to include a release clause in his deal.

The inclusion of a release clause will be like shooting ourselves on the foot as we will be powerless to stop him from leaving if another club activates the release clause and understandably, we are not prepared to meet that part of his demands.

It is a good thing that Ozil will be staying with us for many more years to come and hopefully Sanchez will follow suit. The duo have established themselves as key players in our squad and it is imperative we keep them here for a long time.
