On loan Arsenal star Kelechi Nwakali could cost the club twice the original fee paid due to various clauses included in the deal to bring him to the Emirates.

Nwakali moved to the Emirates in the last transfer window from Diamond academy for an initial fee of £2.5m.

However, a newspaper in his homeland has revealed Arsenal could be forced to pay up to £5m if the player happens to activate the clauses in his contract.

Owngoalnigeria.com claim they have a document in their possession signed by Arsenal’s football operation head, Denis Law in December 2014.

The document shows the total worth of Nwakali’s transfer fee includes an initial fee of £2.5m and a further £2m which will be paid depending on the youngster’s achievements.

Three clauses which will increase the player’s fee as contained in his contract, as noted by the newspaper are as follows:

1. Nigerian Senior National Team: £500,000

A key element of achieving a UK work permit will be qualifying by appearing in 75% of the Nigerian Senior Team matches in one calendar year (criteria defined by the Home Office and the FA). When the player achieves this playing objective, Arsenal will pay the Academy £500,000. The maximum payable is £500,000.

  1. Arsenal FC Starting Eleven: £500,000

Arsenal will pay 20,000 for every start in the Premier League or Champions League. The balance due will be paid in groups of ten starts. The total payable per player is £500,000.

  1. Future Transfer Credit: Up to a maximum of £1 million

In the event that a player is transferred to another club while registered to Arsenal, Arsenal will pay 10% of the transfer fee above £20 million up to a maximum of £1 million.

Nwakali is currently out on loan at Dutch side MVC Maastricht and is currently doing well. The youngster has shown he has the potential to become a top player for us.

The midfielder is currently turning heads with his superb performances in the Dutch league II and should he continue to improve, there is every possibility he will activate those clauses.
