Riyad Mahrez has talked about signing for Arsenal for the last two seasons.
Mahrez, 26, only signed a new four-year contract at Leicester last summer, but he has made it clear that he wants to leave the King Power Stadium.
Arsenal have expressed an interest in the Algeria international and could have signed him for £35million last year.
But the Gunners have made Monaco winger Thomas Lemar their No 1 transfer target in this transfer window after sealing the club-record £52m signing of Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon.
And The Sun say Riyad Mahrez is running out of options as he faces the prospect of remaining at Leicester for the new Premier League season.
It is said the Foxes’ owners are preparing to dig their heels over any deal and he will be going nowhere unless the Gunners cough up their minimum £50m asking price.
Lemar, 21, is valued at £80m by Monaco, but for Arsenal to turn their attentions towards Mahrez they would first have to exhaust the possibility of signing the France international.
A King Power source told The Sun: “Mahrez’s problem is he has talked about a move to Arsenal for two summers now but on both occasions he has had three years remaining on his contract.
“Therefore he is in no position to dictate the next move or call the shots — all the power lies with the club.
“Leicester’s owners do not need the money so unless it’s a staggering deal and the kind of offer which would be stupid to turn down, why would they sell for less than £50m in this market?”
Roma have supposedly made a £20m bid to sign Mahrez, but a move to the Serie A seems unlikely due to the ‘serious money’ being in the Premier League.
