Arsenal have returned with a new bid worth £40m for Monaco’s winger Thomas Lemar, according to The Daily Mail.
Monaco had already rejected a £30m bid from Arsenal for the forward, insisting he isn’t for sale at any price but that hasn’t deterred Wenger who is keen to land his man.
Arsenal have now returned with a new bid, £10m more than the initial offer as Wenger continues to test Monaco’s resolve.
Lemar had been identified as a priority target since the end of last season and Wenger will now focus on signing him now that we’ve completed the signing of Lacazette.
Lacazette and Lemar are close friends from the French national team as well as from the French Ligue 1 and Wenger is determined to pair the duo upfront next season.
Monaco are expected to reject Arsenal’s new bid but that won’t be enough to force Wenger to drop his interest in the midfielder.
With Sanchez now increasingly likely to leave the Emirates, Wenger is reportedly determined to sign Lemar as a replacement.
It remains to be seen whether Wenger will be able to force Monaco into parting with their prized asset or not. Should he be unable to, Riyad Mahrez is already lined up as an alternative target.
However, other reports making the rounds claim Lemar will be our 3rd signing of the summer with Wenger willing to go all the way to get him as a replacement for Sanchez.
