Arsenal are interested in signing Olympique de Marseille midfielder Maxime Lopez but will face competition from Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, according to reports.

Lopez is regarded as one of France’s brightest talents and the 18 year old is already attracting interests from the two Premier League clubs.

The midfielder made his debut for Marseille at the beginning of the season and has quickly established himself as a key player, drawing comparisons with former Arsenal and Marseille star Sami Nasri due to his style of play.

Wenger who has established a very solid scouting network in France over the years have been alerted by Lopez’s performances and is keeping tabs on the midfielder. Liverpool have also taken note of the midfielder and will continue to monitor his development ahead of a future move.

According to Le Parisien via HITC Sports, both clubs will go head to head in the race to sign the midfielder.

The report also added that other clubs have scouted the midfielder in the last few weeks but failed to mention their names. It means more clubs will join the race to sign the youngster if he continues to perform well for his club.

As an Arsenal fan, it is a thing of joy to see talented young players join our club but realistically speaking, a move for Lopez will be better of in the future. We currently have numerous options in midfield at the moment and a move to the Emirates will definitely limit the number of games he will play, in turn stalling his development.

It will be interesting to see whether Lopez will be tempted to leave Marseille in a hurry or continue his development at the French club but this is certainly not the last we will hear of these links.
