Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been dealt a massive blow yet again in the transfer window with Premier League big spenders Manchester City joining the race to sign Gunners target Inaki Williams, despite the player recently signing a contract extension with Atletic Bilbao till 2021.
The Gunners were initially joined by rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool in the race to sign the 21-year-old winger-cum-forward and there was believe that a fee below his new mammoth release clause which rose by €30million could be negotiated, but with the Citizens joining the race they could be willing to activate his clause.
Gunners fears are however confirmed by the Metro who reports that Manchester City have joined the race for William’s signature and are willing to meet his £37.8 million release clause.
Williams who officially became fastest player in La Liga, having been recorded sprinting at a remarkable 35.71 kilometres per hour in his side’s one all draw with Deportivo in 2015, quicker than both Cristiano Ronaldo (33.6) and Lionel Messi (32.5), is highly regarded as one of the most promising forwards in European football.
Arsene Wenger is very much keen on the player and had scouts run the rule over the 6ft 1in forward when he scored the only goal as his side claimed a 1-0 win over Valencia in the Copa del Rey earlier this month.
The pacey striker has scored 10 times in 21 appearances in all competitions thus far this season.
Williams who became the first black player to score in the club’s 117-year history after netting against Torino last February is also with an outside chance of making the Spain squad for the European Championship in June.
