Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move for Antoine Griezmann in the pass and with the latest reports the Frenchman has ended every speculation linking him with a move to the Emirate Stadium.
Alexandre Lacazette recently said that he was planning to ask his friend and France team-mate Griezmann to join him in north London.
Well judging by comments made by the Atletico Madrid striker in his, Lacazette might as well not bother.
Griezmann – who is continuously linked with Manchester United – opened up on how a move to the Premier League broke down back in 2013.
His former agent Eric Olhats was in regular contact with Arsenal scout Gilles Grimandi at the time.
Grimandi had told Olhats that Wenger was keen to sign him, so Griezmann ‘put aside all other offers’ in order to keep the path clear for him to join the Gunners.
Griezmann was still a Real Sociedad player at the time, coming off the back of a season in which he’d scored ten league goals in 34 games.
He said: “I waited, I waited, and I kept waiting… when there was no news, Eric called Grimandi, who said that the manager was still interested in me and to keep waiting.
“Finally a few hours before the market closed, he let us know Arsenal would not make a move. I don’t like to be told something and for it not to happen.
“So when Eric told me later that the London club were interested again I told him ‘Forget it, after the blow they gave us.’”
