Thomas Lemar is happy at Monaco and does not intend to force a move through to Arsenal, despite being happy with interest from North London, according to Goal.
Lemar was the subject of a £31m bid from Arsenal during the week but Monaco turned down the offer, insisting the playmaker isn’t for sale.
Subsequent reports claimed Wenger is not prepared to give up in his pursuit of the winger and will return with an improved bid but it seems those efforts will become fruitless if Monaco refuse to change their stance.
Goal claims Lemar wants to remain with Monaco for at least one more season as he believes working with Leonardo Jardim for another full campaign will be beneficial to his development.
Although the forward is happy to have caught the attention of Arsene Wenger, he is not going to force a move away from Monaco, which could just end the Gunners chances of signing him.
To further dent Arsenal’s chances of signing him, he is open to the idea of penning a new contract which Monaco are already working on.
The playmaker who scored 14 goals and provided additional three, in all competitions last season had been identified as Arsenal’s top target to replace Alexis Sanchez who is being linked with a move to Man City.
This doesn’t mean an Arsenal move for Lemar is totally dead, it means the Gunner may have to pay well over the odds to convince Monaco into seling. It remains to be seen whether Arsenal will continue to push for the Monaco man, turn his attention to other targets or even decide to keep Sanchez at all costs.
