Arsenal are closing in on Monaco’s Thomas Lemar, according to the Sun.

Lemar was identified as Arsenal’s top target since the end of last season but negotiations with Monaco have been slow because of their reluctance to sell.

The Gunners have already had two bids worth £30m and £35m rejected by the French club but that didn’t put off Wenger who is keen to spend big this time around.

It appears the manager’s persistence is about to pay off, with Monaco now resigned to losing the playmaker.

The Sun claims Monaco are set to allow the midfielder move to the Emirates for a fee worth around £50m.

Lemar’s representatives have already told Monaco about the midfielder’s desire to work under Wenger and the French club are now willing to grant his wishes if Arsenal meet their demands.

Should a move happen, Lemar’s arrival will take Arsenal’s spending to £102m after the signing of Alexandre Lacazette for £52m and Sead Kolasinac on a free transfer.

Lemar is expected to replace Alexis Sanchez who is being linked with a move away from the Emirates. While the French man isn’t a perfect replacement for the Chilean, he will go a long way to soften the effect of Sanchez’s exit.

Gooners will also be excited about his capture as it will be a proof that Arsenal are beginning to pull their weight in the transfer market.

Should Wenger manager to keep Sanchez and also pull off Lemar’s capture, it will become a perfect window for Arsenal. I’m certain everyone would want that.
