North London Derby Shocker: Alexis Sanchez To Play Against Spurs?

Despite still being viewed as bearing some pain, Alexis Sanchez is determined to prove himself ready to face Tottenham on Saturday, Wenger has revealed.

“Super Bull” Alexis had been tagged as “not ready” by Wenger, with the Leicester game on Tuesday the more likely date for his return, but has made it clear that could be against the player’s wish as he is begging to make his first start in the North London derby.

“He wants to play, of course, he’s very keen, he feels he can defy the medical people because he is so keen to play that he thinks he can get over strains” Wenger said.

“I don’t know yet, I need medical advice on that and I need as well to see what he can do in training”

Fewer players have shown as much passion and commitment to play as the £32m summer signing has shown and he made it clear he was not happy not to be playing via his twitter post after the rout of Villa last week. A hamstring injury had been the reason for his absence then but he is determined to show that he is now healed.

Wenger had warned about him being in the “red zone” towards the Christmas period but still picked to be involved in 815 of 900 minutes played between mid-December and the end of January. He has justified his regular inclusions with 18 goals in all competitions, more than his teammates.

Last week’s five star display against Villa gave an indication that the Gunners could still come up with the goods in front of goal without him but it is not just due to his goals and assists that he has become a favourite of the Emirates crowd.

He has brought with him from Barcelona, and his formative days at Tocopilla, a natural enthusiasm to play every given game as though it were his first time, with an eagerness that remains unrivalled in the League and that seems just the perfect attitude required to play in a hugely significant game as the North London derby.

Spurs fans had been jubilant over the possible absence of Alexis and if not for anything, it would be nice to see their ecstasy pooped.

Sit him. If he re-injures it we could lose him for a long time.
