Arsenal are on the verge of announcing the signing of Sead Kolasinac and Henry Onyekuru, according to reports.
The Gunners are planning to carry out a major squad overhaul this summer and are already in the process after putting to end the uncertainty surrounding Wenger’s future.
With Wenger signing a new deal earlier this week, he will be handed well over a £100m war-chest to strengthen the squad but it appears our first signing will cost us nothing.
According to Football.London, Arsenal are ready to announce the signing of Kolasinac imminently with Onyekuru to follow shortly after.
Earlier in May, reports emerged that Arsenal have beaten four other clubs to Kolasinac’s signature.
Arsenal scouts watched the 23 year old defender for almost two years and Wenger was determined to bring him to the Emirates when it became obvious he wanted a transfer.
Kolasinac primarily plays as a left back but is equally adept to playing as a centre back and a defensive midfielder. His versatility means he will be a perfect addition to our first team squad, covering in a number of positions during the course of the season.
He also has enough experience of playing in a top league, having made more than 120 appearances for Schalke in all competitions since he joined them five years ago.
Kolasinac’s imminent arrival has now thrown the future of Kieran Gibbs into further doubt. Gibbs’ contract expires at the end of next season and he is yet to be offered a new deal. With a new left back coming in, he is the likeliest to leave.
Celtic’s left back Kieran Tierney and Monaco’s Benjamin Mendy were also on Arsenal’s radar but it is Kolasinac who will arrive at the Emirates as our first summer signing.
