Borussia Dortmund star Marco Reus is top of Arsene Wenger’s wishlist to replace Alexis Sanchez or Mesut Ozil if either of them refuse to sign new contracts at the Emirates.
Arsenal have been in talks with both players to extend their current deals which expires in 2018 but for one reason or the other, the club has been unable to reach an agreement with them.
There have been different reports on both players’ future in recent weeks and there are fears amongst Gooners that one or both of them could push for an exit.
Although Wenger remains confident that both players will sign extend their contracts with us, the boss has reportedly lined up a plan should any of them push for a move.
According to the Telegraph, Marco Reus is Wenger’s preferred replacement should we lose any of Sanchez or Ozil.
Reus is regarded as one of Europe’s best forward and the German will easily fill the shoes of any of the two players. Along with his quality, the 25 year old is also versatile and can play anywhere across the front four in a 4-2-3-1 formation which Wenger employs.
According to the report, Arsenal will offer Reus a huge pay rise in a bid to tempt him to swap the Signal Iduna park for the Emirates.
I’m not sure there is any Gooner who would not want a player like Reus at the Emirates but the only disadvantage about this signing is the player’s injury record. Reus has suffered series of injuries in the last couple of seasons and that may be a big problem for us if he makes the switch to the Emirates.
In a competitive league like the Premier League, you need your key players fit for the majority of the season to stand any chance of winning the title and with Reus injury record, he may not just be the perfect signing for us.
