Arsene Wenger is reportedly keen on bolstering his side in the January transfer window for the second half of the 2015/2016 season.
Arsene Wenger’s quest to land a forward at the Emirates this January seems to have led him to Real Madrid youngster Borja Mayoral, according to Spanish media outlet Fichajes via the Daily Mail.
Arsenal are ready to swoop in for youngster. The player and Madrid have so far been unable to reach an agreement to extend the player’s contract.
The paper went on to claim the 18-year-old “wants to be on the same money” earned by Norway international starlet Martin Odegaard, an amount Madrid find prohibitive.
Mayoral currently features for Madrid’s Castilla side as a striker and has bagged five goals in 17 appearances this season. The striker made his only senior team appearance in October in La Liga but has twice made the substitute bench in the Champions league .
The Spain under 21 star who has been likened to Madrid legend Raul is a player very keen on improving “I used to look up to Raul because he was always looking for loose balls and paying attention to everything that went on in the area,” he said.
“Then [Karim] Benzema came to Madrid and I studied how he played with his back to goal, and inside and outside the box.
The transfer ban recently placed on Madrid would make Mayoral’s signature even more difficult for the Gunners as the Spanish club are understandably reluctant to part with any players.
