Chelsea will join Arsenal in the race to sign Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez, according to reports.
Wenger recently revealed his admiration for the Algeria international and hinted we could make a bid for the winger during the transfer window.
But the Telegraph are now reporting that we could face competition from Chelsea.
The Blues are reportedly keen on signing a wide man, having lost Eden Hazard to an ankle injury which will rule him out of action until September. Therefore, they are now keeping tabs on Mahrez situation.
Reports claim it will require a bid of £50m to force Leicester City into selling but neither of Arsenal or Chelsea would be willing to pay that much.
Mahrez played a key role in Leicester’s march to the Premier League title two seasons ago, winning the PFA player of the year in the process but he was unable to replicate his devastating form last year.
That doesn’t take his quality away from him anyway but just shows he is not yet a £50m player. Should Leicester play hardball over the transfer, the midfielder is expected to force through the move which should drive his price down.
Gooners, should Wenger do everything possible to beat Chelsea to sign Mahrez or should the boss look for another better target worth that price?
