Wellington Silva’s move from Arsenal to Bordeaux is off after the winger failed to pass a medical at the French club.
Silva was on Arsenal books from 2010 until he was sold to Fluminese last summer where he made an instant impact and then caught the admiration of the decision makers at Bordeaux.
Following Bordeaux interest, Arsenal triggered his £1.5m buy back clause, with the hope of selling him to the French club for a profit.
However, the Ligue 1 side has announced that Silva’s €5m move will not go ahead after the player failed a medical on Tuesday.
Silva wasn’t able to make an appearance for Arsenal during his first spell at the club because of work permit issue and the club was hoping to make profit from a player it nurtured for seven years by selling him to Bordeaux but that wouldn’t happen now and we are stuck with him.
What Arsenal will do next with Silva remains to be seen. A return to Fluminese, although still possible, will be difficult because the Brazilian club were happy to let him return to Europe so they can balance their financial books.
The midfielder will now join the long list of players Arsenal are already struggling to ship out. Obviously the club wouldn’t have envisaged this happening but there is nothing we can do but to resolve the winger’s future as soon as possible.
