Monaco youngster Allan Saint-Maximin has revealed that he turned down a move to Arsenal in 2015.

Allan, 19, who is currently on loan at French club Bastia has made 23 league appearances so far, scoring three goals. A number of clubs around Europe are still keeping tabs on the winger with the hope that he can still fulfill the potential he showed earlier in his career when he was at Saint Etienne.

Arsenal were one of the clubs monitoring the winger’s progress back then in 2014 but a move never materialized and everything went quiet afterwards.

The youngster has however now revealed that we did follow up our interest in his services but he rejected a move to the Emirates in order to remain in France.

Arsenal’s approach was in 2015 but apparently, the player felt it was best to remain at Saint Ettiene.

He told France Football: “Saint-Etienne promised me game time, but I was also a year off my deal coming to an end.

“Despite my situation, I still had a lot of big clubs, including Arsenal, who wanted me.

“I owed Saint-Etienne something, and I was also proud to impose myself in the club that developed me. Therefore I signed a new deal”.

Few months after Arsenal’s approach, the winger chose to join Monaco. Unfortunately, he is yet to make his senior debut for Monaco and has been farmed out on loan since he joined.

Looking at the likes of Alex Iwobi and Jeffe-Reine Adelaide both of whom have broken into the first team in the last two years, Allan may be wishing he had chosen to join us when we did try to sign him.
