Juventus are lining up a bid for Wojciech Szczesny, according to reports
The Gunner’s shot stopper has established himself as one of Serie A’s best goalkeeper in his two year loan spell at Roma and he is now on the radar of a host of Italian teams.
Yesterday, reports claimed he had agreed personal terms on a three year deal with Napoli but it appears Juventus are looking to throw a spanner into Napoli works.
According to the Daily Cannon, Juve are prepared to pay as much as £13.8m to sign Szczesny and then also offer the goalkeeper around £66,000 weekly. Meanwhile Napoli are not prepared to pay more than £10m for the goalkeeper.
Arsenal are yet to make a decision on Szczesny’s future but we will have to do so in the coming weeks as he has just one year left in his contract.
With the way things are turning out, it’s almost certain Szczesny who earns £100,000-a-week at Arsenal would take a huge pay-cut to fulfill his wish of continuous regular football away from the Emirates stadium next season.
Few weeks ago, Wenger had mentioned Szczesny as one of his goalkeeping options for next season, meaning there is a desire to bring him back here.
When you also listen to the goalkeeper’s recent comments, it is obvious that he wants to return to the Emirates but he wouldn’t come back to play back up to Petr Cech.
This would put Arsenal in a tough position because we’ll then have to sell him if he doesn’t want to return here to share duties with Cech.
The Poland international has long been touted as the club’s future no 1 and is beginning to show signs that he has enough quality to fill those boots. So I think it’s imperative we keep him even if we have to promise him a prominent role in our first team.
