Arsenal are stalling on offering Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain a new contract, according to The Independent.

The midfielder currently has two years left in his contract but is being made to wait for a new contract.

Chamberlain has struggled to impress at the Emirates since he joined the club in 2011 and his future is now in serious doubt.

Arsenal were willing to sell the midfielder in the just concluded summer transfer window but he wanted to stay and fight for his future at the club this season. With the season well underway, he is now keen to impress Wenger but he is in a difficult situation as his long term future is still unclear.

Wenger has not been impressed by the midfielder’s development in recent seasons and wanted to sell him in the summer when he could still get a large fee for him.

The midfielder started against Paris Saint Germain but struggled to make any meaningful contribution to the team.

However, a classy performance against Forest in the EFL over the week has led to many Arsenal fans calling for the attacker to be used more often this term.

He will definitely get more chances to prove himself during the course of the season but should things not improve, he could find himself out of the club next summer.

Wenger has shown enough patience in the midfielder since he joined from Southampton in 2011 but he has failed to repay the manager’s faith in him.

The winger has just eight league goals for Arsenal in over a century of appearances.
