Arsenal are reportedly set for a summer clear out of more than half-a-dozen star players.

This report is according to talkSport, who claim the Gunners are set to axe six players this summer as part of a squad clear out from Arsene Wenger in preparation for next season.

It is no longer secret that Wenger is planning a major title charge next season, and the French boss is aware that the only way to give Chelsea and other rival clubs a good fight is to bring in marque signings.

talkSport says the players set to be axed from the Emirates Stadium this summer will include Wojciech Szczesny, Abou Diaby, Mathieu Flamini, Joel Campbell, Carl Jenkinson, Ryo Miyaichi and captain Mikel Arteta.

While some of the names above are expected, the likes of Szczesny, Campbell and Jenkinson will still come as a shock to many Arsenal fans who believe the players could still have a future at the club.

The boss has already promised the signing of “world class” players and so reports of a summer clear-out should not come as a surprise development.

The exits would clear significant squad space and free up some serious cash to chase big names such as Jackson Martinez, Karim Benzema, Arturo Vidal, Petr Cech and Geoffrey Kondogbia.

If we replace Arturo Vidal and Jackson Martinez for all those players (Arteta, Diaby, Flamini, Miyaichi all no use for the squad) Gunners will rightly be a contenders. But that will never happen, because Arsene A) Has soft spot for his players B) No-one would want to pay their wages in the EPL. For arsenal clear their books, these players must be willing to move on to lesser wages or and lower leagues. However, Campell, Jenkinson, Rosicky, WZ all have values and can be sold. Additions of Vidal, Kondogbia/Morgan S, JM will be a dream scenario, you know what they say about dreams!

That is healthy competition enough to make anyone play through injuries and stay fit or left behind and not make the match day squad. That is great mix of pace, power, imagination and goals.

It was a good decision if we can sell those he made mentioned to have enough money to sign those world top players… I think it’s sensible…

All are good additions except Vidal. The guy is just too rough; will get more red cards than any player in the history of AFC

Some would say, we need rough players in midfield! But i think you right, the guy is Red Card waiting to happen. If we got one of Kondogbia/Morgan Schneirdlin/Wanyama will have no need for Vidal anyway. Our luck and recent history says, lots of unfortunate injuries in the same positions of the squad that strips away strengths. I think we played last year with only one Winger for a while, shame we had Theo/OX/Gnabry all out for months therefore no pace on the wings. Similar problems as well in each of the past few years, all wing backs out, all strikers out, all center backs out etc etc. My point, what looks like a packed midfield now; Wilshere, Cazorla, Ramsey, Coquelin, Rosicky, Ozil can be a problem start of the season. The good thing is that all these players can play in the midfield and interchange with some degree of quality. I worry who will replace or compete with Coquelin, if we don’t buy. As for Strikers, i think Danny W will settle in and contribute, Giroud is giroud but we will need someone to compete, elevate their form and put fear to opposing defenders. John Terry was incredible because he hasn’t seen worthy competition of strikers. We couldn’t score on Chelsea, that is got to change.

Apart from Campbell, I believe that the list is pretty much deadwood. Agree with the players to be released, but add to that Podolski and maybe Wellington Silva as well.
