Arsenal legend Charlie Nicholas has urged Wenger to carryout a massive clear-out of our squad this summer.
Arsenal have failed to qualify for the Champions League for the first time in 21 years and many believe the club needs to undergo a major overhaul if we want to challenge for the title again.
Fans on social media have urged Wenger to spend big this summer and Nicholas has now joined those clamouring for major changes.
The ex-Gunner claim Arsenal needs to sell as much as seven players to create space for new players this summer if it wants to challenge for title again.
“I’m hearing that Per Mertersacker might go into the coaching staff, then I’d let David Ospina, Mathieu Debuchy, Carl Jenkinson, Kieran Gibbs, Francis Coquelin and Olivier Giroud go to build up the transfer kitty.
“We need to get away from the one or two changes, it has to be six or seven players moving on and at least four coming in.
“Wenger has had one of the strongest groups he’s had but he’s not brought the best out of them, so they need to make big changes.”
Six or Seven players is indeed a large number to change and I don’t think Arsenal would want to make such huge changes.
As much as bringing in new players to improve the squad is important, stability is also crucial. I think changing that amount of players won’t do our squad any good as many may need time to adapt which could see us fall behind our rivals early on in the season.
